| Abstract: | A brief illustration of artificial intelligence techniques is presented. Research and applications of expert systems in production planning and scheduling are reviewed. Components of expert systems are discussed. Relationship between expert system and operation research approaches are presented. Integration of operation research and expert system techniques is explored. It is concluded that with the rapid development of computer hardware and software, expert system techniques synthesized with other methods will be suitable to solve manufacturing problems in a more effective and flexible way. |
