Abstract: | A review of the benefits of acquiring computer aided design /CAD/, computer aided manufacturing /CAM/ and flexible manufacturing systems /FMS/, based on a survey of seven US companies. The study covers problem processes, automated equipment versus conventional equipment, justifying investment in automation and co-operation as the key to success. Cost savings are indicated in a Table and the way in which management accountants can play a major role in justifying automation and such processes. |
