Abstract:Problems of introducing expert systems are discussed. Examples are presented for working systems. Benefits of successful applications are outlined, tangible and intangible ones are compared. The role of the systems in saving human time, winning new customers, understanding existing procedures, training novices, sharing information is analyzed. Steps in adopting an expert system are listed and described in detail. Task selection is mentioned as the first one. Methods are proposed for evaluating opportunities. The importance of the assembling of the right mix of the technique and the human talent is emphasized.
