Abstract:During the past few years, many chief information officers (CIOs) opted for short-term solutions in response to the weak economy. Many organizations are not investing heavily in information systems (IS) strategies. However, not all CIOs are failing to properly position their IS department for the long term. A survey of CIOs, "Leading trends in IS" was performed, and its main results are presented, as deduced from the 430 responses of CIOs of large companies. In the focus of the survey were new systems , like the application of CASE (computer-aided software engineering) tools, client/server architecture, and lessons learned from outsourcing.
