Abstract:This paper deals with the role of adaptation and replication (hereafter as: adp-and-rpl.) in knowledge (here as: knw.) transfer (as: trf.) relationships. A model of knw. trf. is developed in which firms replicate due to the ambiguousity of knw. and adapt due to the context-dependability of knw. Adp-and-repl. lead to successful knw. trf., which leads to improved performance of the receiving unit. Based on testing the predictions using a survey of cross-border knw. trf. relationships among firms in the telecommunications industry, the results are largely consistent with the model, pointing to potential areas for future research etc.
