Abstract:Design innovations and changing consumer lifestyles have sustained demand for small electronic appliances. Cleaning appliances were the most important sector in 1997 and accounted for 35.7% of total volume sales. Between 1993 and 1997 personal appliances represented the most important growth sector with volume sales increasing by 7.5%. During the same period volume sales of cleaning appliances decreased by 2.3%. Hectic consumer lifestyles, resulting in less time for house cleaning and food preparation, have stimulated the market growth. In 1997 the market reached over 14 million units, an increase of 3.5% over 1993. The retail value of small electronic appliances market stood at L1,063 in 1997, an increase of 5.7% since 1993. Moulinex is the market leader with an 18.3% volume share in 1997. Buying groups were the most important retail distribution channel, representing 46.7% of volume sales in 1997.
