Abstract:This paper reports on two laboratory studies which explored the impact of public information on congestion levels and travel costs. The authors used Arnott at al.'s bottleneck model as a framework in the experiment design in order to gain better understanding about individual travel behavior. The findings reveal that past traffic and congestion rate information have a weak impact on drivers' choices. The influence of congestion on travel costs is in line with the authors' expectations.
