Abstract:Travel customs in the UK are described. Data are presented about motor vehicles. The number of private cars is steadily growing, but almost 40% of all UK households still did not have regular use of a car.Demand is almost unlimited. Tables are showing road vehicles per capita and road traffic by type of vehicle. An estimation is presented about the average distance travelled per annum by class of vehicle. Household expenditure on transport and vehicles is analyzed. The growth in the use of the motor cars has inevitably had a profound effect on consumer spending patterns. A forecast is summarized about the car park in 1990.
