Abstract: | The benefits of designing for usability have been widely promoted. The authors contend that usability is a necessary but not sufficient condition for the design of good human- centered technology. The authors describe a general methodology, socio-cognitive engineering, for the design of human-centered technology. The author integrates software, task, knowledge and organizational engineering and has been relmed and tested through a series î projects to develop computer systems to support training and professional work In this paper the authors describe the methodology and illustrate its use through a project to develop a computer-based training system for neuro- radiology. |
