Abstract:The author states that France Telecom is no longer a dull, state-owned monopoly and studies whether its CEO can prepare this company for the global telecom wars. The author says that the only reason France Telecom's financial squeeze isn't a crisis is that its fixed-line division is so lucrative. The bad news it that it is also flat. In conclusion the author consider the staff situation in France Telecom and states that something has to give here if management of the company wants to take on Vodafone, AOL, and other vanguards of the telecom and Internet revolutions whose staffs most definitely don't have lifetime sinecures. For management's sake, and for France Telecom's, it had better to be soon.
