Abstract:The interaction between the sex of the assessors and the sex of the assessors on the determination of the assessors's assessment centre performance rating was examined in a study. Subjects were 1035 candidates (817 males and 218 females) for a professional sales position in a large financial service organization. The appraisal procedure is described. Results from this investigation revealed a significant main effect for assessors sex, favoring females over males, and a significant interaction effect between the sex composition of the assessor group and assessors sex. The results are compared with past empirical evidence and discussed in the light of current theory.
