Abstract:During the past two decades Taiwan has achieved an average annual growth rate of 8.1 per cent. This performance is comparable to the 8.7 per cent annual growth rate in the republic of Korea, and outpaces the world average of 2.8 per cent growth during the same period. This study focuses on Taiwan's manufacturing sector and evaluates the effects of trade and FDI policies enforced after the mid-1970s. In the first section, a survey of Taiwan's trade and FDI policies is presented. The second section provides TFP calculations and comparisons by subsector.
