Abstract:The most glaring gaps between China's iron and steel industry and advanced countries' are as follows: 1. Low-level technology and equipments. Only 20% or so of them have reached the world level. 2. Backward production technology. Only 21% of China's iron and steel enterprises have adopted the short process technology of electric furnace as the result of the third technological revolution and the comprehensive consumption of energy is 50% higher than that of advanced countries. 3. Low labor productivity. For the output of 80 million tons of steel, the employed workers are 200,000 in America, while 3, 800,000 in China. 4. Small scale of production, less variety and poor quality. They lead to low added value. So it is urgent to deepen the reform of iron and steel industry.
