Abstract:This paper examines the causes of group performance loss: high versus low cultural collectivism, incentives for goal attainment, goal specifity, and communication. Subjects were managers from Israeli cities and kibbutzim who worked on a simulated task. A two-by-three-by-four design was used in which sample, goal, and test condition were varied to test hypotheses. Group performance loss occurred for urban respondents with do-your-best goal and team task.
