Abstract: | In this article, the construct of esprit de corps (here as: e-de-c.) is formally defined. There are propositions developed explaining how e-de-c. (or 'team spirit') emerges in individuals and impacts on individual and group level behaviour. The premise is proposed that an individual can simultaneously develop three different types of e-de-c.: organizational e-de-c., workgroup e-de-c., and professional e-de-c. Propositions explaining how high levels of these types of e-de-c. develop and their consequences on an individual's behaviour and performance within a group or organization are presented. |
