Abstract:This paper discusses management development (MD) that is considered a key element in a strategic approach to human resource management. However, there is still little empirical evidence that MD actually contributes considerably to superior firm performance. It is shown that organization size explains some variance in productivity, but the degree of variance explained is significantly enhanced when variables are introduced which capture the way MD is conceived and implemented.
