Abstract:The postmodern heritage tourism market has matured and the contemporary preoccupation with an increasing number of topics from the past has resulted in the emergence of different criteria for defining and interpreting heritage in terms of popular images of preferred histories. Within this context, visual media-themed heritage products are making an important contribution to tourism development. Manchester's "Hollywood of the North" tour is an example of new product development through interpretation and an alternative tourist experience.
