Abstract:This article tests three arguments on the relationship between social stratification and cultural consumption based on recent survey data. Tested argument are: what we label as the homology, individual and omnivore-univore arguments. This article concentrates on musical consumption and applies latent class model to identify types of musical consumer. It also examines the social character of these types through regression analysis that includes a range of demographic and stratification variables. As would be posited from a Weberian standpoint, type of musical consumption proves to be more closely associated with status and education , than with class.
