| Abstract: | This paper explores city break tourism, focusing especially on the distinctive characteristics of this form of travel. The city break is examined and compared with other types of trips, following a sequential mixed methods approach including both a visitor survey and in-depth interviews. It is shown that the international city break trip has a number of distinctive characteristics which can be summarized into five main areas (5 Ds): i. duration, ii. distance, iii. date flexibility, iv. discretionary nature and v. destination travel party. |
