Abstract:Tight-fistedness, short-sightedness and a lack of sympathy - there has been a stream of complaints about the caution and parsimony of the banks. Fears are voiced about the damage it could do if the needs of Britain's smaller firms are not met. The sources of support are there, though, for those willing to sharpen their financial management skills. "Relationship banking" is one of the recession's positive results, both parties having painfully rediscovered how much they need each other.
