Abstract: | The new techniques of corporate communication can block organizational learning even as they help solve certain problems. The author shows how these techniques discourage organizational self-examination that is more necessary today than ever. A generation ago, managers wanted employees to do exactly what they were told and bought their acquiescence with a system of extrinsic rewards. Today managers need employees who think constantly and creatively about the needs of the organization. The problem is not that employees run away from organizational self-examination, but that no one asks it of them. |
