| Abstract: | Recent approaches to strategy have focused the attention of managers inward on their companies' core competencies and capabilities. This article lays out a set of pragmatic tests to help managers build and sustain profitable resource-based strategies. The authors argue, however, that looking inward is only one part of strategy development. Choosing the right industries in which to compete is just as important. They present a new strategic framework that integrates both perspectives. |
