Abstract:It has been a quiet revolution. While the turmoil in Russia has held the world's attention for months, another part of the old Soviet bloc has been reshaping itself. Thanks to a combination of political stability and an able labor force and consistent economic reform, Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic are managing to outshine other countries in Eastern Europe and the former USSR. Inflation has tapered off, once gyrating currencies are now stable, output is rising at a brisk pace , and unemployment has levelled off.
