Abstract:Software vendors are planning to take advantage of Web technology. When is it going to happen? And, more to the point, why? Who wants to run financial applications over the Internet? The whole proposition might sound a bit rash , especially after recent well-publicised hiccups such as the failure of a master "domain name server" that left several million e-mails with nowhere to go for a few hours. Yet major vendors of financial and "enterprise" software - for example, SAP and Oracle - are convinced that Internet-enabled software is what their customers are going to want.
