Abstract: | Five epochal revolutions of distribution are reviewed. The fifth of these was the hypermarket revolution, characterized by a large selling area and a rich assortment of goods. Six characteristics of the modern distribution system are listed. The evolution of the French distribution is described, and critically examined. The service aspect of the modern distribution is explained, its vocational character is stressed. Additional economic and social costs because of poor service in a distribution system are identified analyzed. The concept of hyperservice is defined. Its methods are described. Some of its competitive advantages are assessed. |
