Abstract:In 1987. Dutch record industry closed its best year ever with $379 million overall earnings. The success is mainly due to the soaring CD sales totalling 8.8 million units. 650,000 CD-player owners account for this sum. Dutch industry organization NVPI is worried about the spread of CD rental and home taping. It presses for legal measures to stop this practice. NVPI figures indicate the 20-29 age group is the most important factor in music sales. Teenage buying power continues to decline.
