Abstract:In Ireland the present regulatory system began in 1984 when the new state -run company, Telecom Eireann was entrusted with the operation of telecommunications services.Under its establishing Act of Parliament, It is granted the exclusive privilege in the telecommunications network. Even licensing belongs to it. The terminal market is wholly outside this exclusive privilege, and the provision of terminals is fully liberalised.
