| Abstract: | Most appraisal schemes focus on performance appraisal, they set work objectives and assess performance for salary purposes. The Nuffield Hospitals group worked out a new approach by concentrating on personal development. They made their personal development programme available to all staff. Their experiences are described in this article focusing on some of the things that helped make the system successful. |
