Abstract:This study examines the implications of the changes for social inequality. Specifically the study investigates whether a new type of unskilled service class is likely to emerge as a distinct social class. The study is based on three questions referring to the pattern of changes in the employment structure by occupational class and the issue of demographic class. The findings reveal that the service proletariat in Spain is relatively large and stable and the job growth in Spain has implied an increase in unskilled service workers. The question about a new social class of unskilled workers does not have a straightforward answer.
