| Abstract: | This paper deals with the interaction of labour market reform and the introduction of the single European currency. The current state of European labour markets are described and poor labour market performance is related to a set of institutions that support real and nominal wage rigidity. The need for reform of these institutions to improve labour market performance is stressed. |
