Abstract: | This study presents a procedure for determining the optimal response of a monopolistic reseller when the supplier offers a temporary reduction in price. The model assumes that the temporary reduction in price is available to the reseller at the end of the current inventory cycle. One can assume that the temporary reduction in price is offered to the reseller within some time window. In the revised problem, the stock position of the reseller at the time of the announcement of the promotion would be nonzero. The revised problem may be difficult to solve because of the nonlinearity in the demand-price relationship and nonconvexity inherent in the model. |
