Abstract:The problem of scheduling many products on a single facility so as to minimize holding and setup costs is considered. It is shown how to find feasible schedules for such shared facility problems when batching is driven by setup times rather than by setup costs. The results characterize when feasible schedules exist, quantify the intensity of costs to adjustments, and show how close schedules will be to ones with optimal equal cycle times. A. heuristic that produces nearly optimal feasible schedules is also presented.
