Abstract: | Optimal batch size is considered when stockouts are permitted. In order to obtain horizons, stockouts or lost sales are permitted, but not backorders. Two forward solution algorithms that utilize both the optimality conditions and the horizon theorems are presented. The first applies to problems for which the maximum production capacity is constant from period to period. The second forward algorithm treats the case in which the maximum production capacity varies with each time period. In the first case, it is shown that the worst case effort involved in solving this model is initially in a cubic fashion, but becomes asymptotically linear in the length of the problem. |
