Abstract: | The problem of determining lot sizes of multiple items that are manufactured by a single capacitated facility is considered. Items flow from the facility to a downstream facility, where they are assembled according to a specified mix. The selection process, based upon the various items' demand rates, holding costs, set-up times and processing times considers the impact of an increased lot size on total holding cost of all items per time unit. Inventory accumulates until sufficient stock is available to perform one assembly. A model is developed that seeks the most economic lot sizes. A heuristic is employed that minimizes the total holding cost of all items per time unit subject to available capacity. |
