Abstract:This study reports on five experiments dealing with the effect of emotional and situational factors on the decision (here as: dec.) to seek out post-dec. information (as: info.) about un-chosen alternative. It was found that i. participants were more willing to acquire info. when being responsible for the dec., ii. that regret about making the wrong investment, iii. forgetting to send in a lottery ticket, and iv. missing an opportunity to use a discount card after spending a month in a country, mediates the info.-seeking behaviour. In addition, it was also shown that the experience of regret influences post-dec. info. seeking.
