| Abstract: | The reasons for young people's union membership decision in the U.K. are explored. To this aim a survey of London 16-year-old school leavers is examined. The Bain-Elsheikh propensity-opportunity model is now regarded as insufficient. An industrial relations model for youth and union membership is proposed which takes account of different sources of motivation and action. |
