| Abstract: | The history of operations management before World War Two is neither known or appreciated. Many factors have influenced the development of the discipline, yet these effects are largely unrecognized. Research has been blinkered by a focus on direct precedents and has failed to acknowledge the broader environment that influenced these developments. A knowledge of the past is a necessary foundation in understanding the present and in speculating about the future. |
