| Abstract: | Managers care about the bottom line. A healthy profit margin is an important indication that a company is responding to customer needs and paying appropriate attention to costs. But maximizing quarterly earnings is no guarantee of long-term success. Strategic investments in product and process capabilities are key to competing in the world class environment of today's economy. Many companies, however, are not realizing the full benefits of such investments because of inadequate performance measurement systems. |
