| Abstract: | Volume sales in 1998 totalled some 75 bn sticks, worth £12 bn at retail prices Compared with 1990, volume is down 20% but value is around 40% higher on account of higher taxation. The UK is a net exporter of cigarettes. Markets in Eastern Europe and Asia offer most promise but are subjext to dangerous volatility at present. |
