Abstract: | This article analyses the modernization of the tobacco business in Spain and the expansion of consumption in the first decades of the twentieth century. It aims to provide a historical dimension to the debates on the industrys responsibility in causing tobacco addiction and the government policies to reduce tobacco consumption through a control of advertising. |
