Abstract:In the integrated manufacturing medium-size companies tend to adopt ad-hoc solutions to compensate for their weak points. But a CIM concept should reflect long-term strategic considerations. Four pathways leading to integrated manufacturing are described. Some guidelines are provided which can help the development of an effective CIM concept. The equal importance of vertical and horizontal integration is emphasized. The tasks of process organization are explained. The role of personnel management in the introduction phase of a CIM project is shown. Some lessons of a pilot project are reported.
