Abstract:Software piracy costs the software industry over USD 10 billion annually in lost revenue. The explosive growth of the Internet has provided software pirates with a powerful tool for acquiring and distributing software. Despite initiatives and legal action by governmental agencies and private associations, it is up to each software company to protect its own intellectual property interests on a day-to-day basis. Implementing a basic, 3-pronged approach can be effective for combating software piracy online and for shoring up eroding revenues due to online software piracy.
