Abstract:This study explores several variables for their possible individual and joint impact on the managerial practices of organizational leaders. It is aimed at getting a more complete and accurate picture of the variables related to leadership (henceforth as: l-ship) practice. Based on data from more than 400 managers in the industries of the United Kingdom (U.K.), it is found that age is directly related to the consultative (here as: cons.), participative (as: part.) and delegative (as: delg.) l-ship styles of managers. The older a manager (cet. par.), the more cons., part. and delg. l-ship processes he/she engages in, preferring more of collective decisions in contrast with younger managers. Hierarchy is found to be directly related to cons. and part. l-ship style, yet not to directive or delg. l-ship, though. A number of multiple variables, incl. e.g. hierarchy and gender, proved to be useful in explaining the complex styles of managers.
