Abstract:Overall, there still exist a wider gap in supply and demand in the forestry of China. According to a forecast, by the year 2000, China's demand for timber and firewood will be about 164.49 million cubic meters and 77.60 million cubic meters respectively. At that time, there will be a gap of about 45 million cubic meters in supply and demand. The demand for manmade boards will be 9-10 million cubic meters. In view of the present state of production, a production capacity of 2.5-3.5 million cubic meters will be increased during the Ninth five-year Plan period. However there will be great difficulties in fulfilling such a heavy task.
