Abstract:This paper examines how managers' perceptions of different types of stakeholder (hereafter as: s-hldr/s.) influences in the Canadian forestry industry affect the types of sustainability (here as: sust-y.) practices that their firms adopt. Both influences involving (here as: invlg.) withholding of resources by social and ecological s-hldrs. and those invlg. directed usage of resources from economic s-hldrs. were found to drive such practices. It is found that the industry and its s-hldrs. have moved beyond a focus on early stages of sust-y. performance such as pollution control and eco-efficiency. However, more advanced practices are in their infancy. S-hldrs. and firms in the industry are focused on the intermediate sust-y. phases involving recirculation of materials and redesign of processes incl. sustainable harvesting of lumber.
