Abstract:This report examines the international retail and horeca market for beer in five major countries: France, Germany, Italy, Spain, UK. The period under review is 1995-1999 for current data and 1999-2004 for the future outlook of the market. All 1999 figures are based on part-year data. Figures in tables are calculated from unfounded data and may not sum. The market is divided into three sectors: lager, other beer, and non-/low alcohol beer (NAB/LAB). Lager beer includes all beers brewed by bottom fermentation. The sector is broken down into: premium, standard, economy. Most beer markets are mature and offer limited potential for further volume development. Value sales have been boosted by embellishing products in terms of adding value through improved variety, recipes and packaging.
