| Abstract: | The idea behind this paper, and the inaugural lecture on which it is based, is that public commentary in recent years which is reviewed here, should make us reflect on the appropriateness of what has traditionally been taught to general mangers and question what should be taught. Combining new developments in accounting, finance and business strategy, this article offers a new approach to the development of general managers. Management educators must continually strive to develop their subjects in a way that will be valuable to the general manager. |
