| Abstract: | The 'Story...' is an enigmatic insertion into Gogol's 'Mertvye dushi'. Because of its satirical edge against the bureaucracy of St.Petersburg of the epoch it provoked obstacles on the part of censorship. The article reveals the place of the 'Story...' in the writer's artistic universe through drawing the antithesis of 'dandy-villain' illustrated also in works by Pushkin, Dostoevskii and others. |
