Abstract:A top-down hierarchical structure no longer delivers competitive results, and new structures have not solved the problem. In this article the authors show how top level managers must rethink their roles to improve company performance. Based on their study of 20 companies with vanguard management styles, they predict a managerial revolution that will focus on horizontal processes rather than vertical structures.
