Abstract: | If Chinese connections guaranteed business success in Hong Kong, Everbright's fortune would be made. The group's woes show mainland firms must bank on more than political ties. In its 13 years in Hong Kong, the Everbright group has had leaders with enviable mainland Chinese pedigrees. Bur since its glittering entrance, Everbright has languished. Several forays into property and finance ended badly, while a number of direct investments have stumbled. It makes a stark contrast with Citic Pacific, another mainland-controlled investment arm. |
